I am currently accepting new clients. I see individuals, couples, families and children. Counseling is private and confidential, unless it involves information about child abuse or threats of violence to yourself or others. Counseling is a process in which a person (a client) uses the professional training, knowledge and expertise of the counselor to to help them reanalyze and reprocess their own thoughts and feelings so they are better able to deal with the present and the future.
People can earn certificates for some counseling services, such as anger management counseling. Three anger management certificates are available. The basic anger management certificate is for completing 8 sessions. Anger management with battery intervention (BIP) requires 12 sessions. The highest level of certificate is called Anger Mastery. The Anger Mastery certificate requires 24 hours of anger management counseling.
In addition to counseling, I offer testing services. I use both MMPI and the Taylor Johnson personality tests. Tests for ADHD (Attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder) and IQ testing are also available. I do testing for drug and alcohol assessments.
Other services are offered in addition to counseling. My wife and I teach For Kids' Sake, which is a court ordered 4 hour parenting class covering divorce and child custody parenting issues. It is a family stabilization class. We teach this class twice a month at our offices. Parents are taught to help their children cope with having divorced or separated parents. We have a DVD of one of our live classes which you can purchase at our office or through this website. If you can't attend the live class, then you can get the DVD which comes with the workbook and a test which you must complete and return to us in order to receive the certificate of completion.
Parent Skills Training is a different class which does not focus on divorce and custody issues. Parent Skills Training can be completed either with individual counseling sessions or in small group classes. Parenting (Parent Skills Training) is a twelve hour program with worksheets which participants must complete during the presentations. Each of the 12 presentations are on DVDs which must be watched at the office. The worksheets are reviewed with each participant after each presentation. Most people complete 3 sessions a day, and the charge for 3 sessions is 45 dollars. A certificate of completion is earned when all twelve lessons are completed.
Workplace or off-site seminars dealing with Relationship & Communication Skills, Anger Management, Conflict Resolution, Stress Management, and Parenting are available. Choose from 1/2 hour lunch-time presentations or more comprehensive 1 or 2 hour programs.
I have a master's degree in psychology and I am licensed in Texas as a Professional Counselor and also as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I combine professional counseling with christian principles. I belong to a non-denominational church and was baptized in the Methodist church. My religious beliefs are fairly traditional. Christian counseling simply combines basic Christian beliefs with the structure of professional counseling.
Counseling is not an "easy cure" or a "quick fix' for problems. As you are helped to explore your thoughts and feelings and identify their sources, you may gain a new perspective or a new perception of your situation. One Bible verse says that we must "take every thought captive" (2 Cor 10:5). Counseling helps people examine their own thoughts to decide if they are true or if they should be re-examined. When lies you have believed are replaced with truth, the Bible promises that "the truth shall set you free" (John 8:32) It is through this process that you can "be transformed by renewing your mind" (Romans 12:2). When we are free from fear and anxiety, we can finally enjoy peace (John 14:27; Philippians 4:7).
Appointments
Most people schedule a one hour session once a week. Crisis intervention is often more intensive, with sessions 2 or 3 times a week. Most clients realize their goals within 3 or 4 months, but I have worked with some individuals and couples for several years, since they continued to benefit and grow from counseling.
Phone and Skype Counseling is available and must be scheduled in advance like other counseling appointments. Sessions are 45-50 minutes long, just like office sessions. Sessions must be paid for in advance, either by giving your credit card information over the phone or you can click and pay with Paypal through the following link: www.christianphonecounseling.com. All telephone services are on a fee for service basis. Each session is $96. (People needing free suicide counseling should call the 24hour Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK.) If you are needing phone or internet Skype counseling sessions, please click here to visit my internet counseling website: www.internetcounseling.info .
I charge professional fees. Health insurance usually covers most costs for sessions in the office. Discounts are available to families with financial hardship. Contact us for more information and to schedule your appointment. Scheduling and paying for a phone counseling session means that you have read this entire page and understand the benefits and limitations of counseling.
