Counseling Services I am currently accepting new clients. About one third of my clients are couples having relationship problems. Another third of my counseling is with children who may be angry, anxious or depressed about a divorce or other family problem. I also treat ADD and ADHD. The last third of my appointments are with individual adults. Counseling helps people deal with many problem areas, such as anxiety, stress, depression, relationship conflicts, poor communication, unfaithfulness, domestic violence and parenting issues. Anger management, sexual addictions, childhood sexual abuse and many other issues are also addressed. Counseling is private and confidential, unless it involves information about child abuse or threats of violence to yourself or others.
In addition to counseling, I offer testing services. I use both the MMPI and the Taylor Johnson personality tests. Tests for ADHD (attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder) and IQ testing are also available here. I have clinical instruments (GSR and EEG) to do biofeedback and Neurofeedback training. I also use an EMDR light bar to treat PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder).
Christian counseling includes prayer and is grounded in biblical truth. It is not preaching. It is a dynamic interaction between the counselor and the client in which scripture can be applied to individual problems and needs. Theophostic prayer is used to help many clients heal emotional wounds from their past. I believe that this approach adds an important extra dimension to the practice of counseling.
Counseling is not an "easy cure" or a "quick fix" for problems. As you are helped to explore your thoughts and feelings and identify their sources, you may gain a new perspective or a new perception of your situation. One Bible verse says that we must "take every thought captive" (2Cor 10:5). Counseling helps people examine their own thoughts to decide if they are true or if they should be re-examined. When lies you have believed are replaced with truth, the Bible promises that "the truth will set you free" (John 8:32). It is through this process that you can "be transformed by renewing your mind" (Romans 12:2). When we are free from fear and anxiety, we can finally enjoy peace (John 14:27; Philippians 4:7).
My practice is based on these verses: 2 Corinthians 1:3 "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, (4) He comforts us in all our trouble, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in every trouble, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."
Most people schedule 6 to 12 weekly sessions. Some may want to schedule sessions 2 or 3 times a week during a difficult time. Most clients realize their goals within 3 or 4 months, but I have worked with some individuals and couples for several years, since they continued to benefit and grow from the counseling.
Telephone Counseling
Phone Counseling is available to help people who live outside of the Corpus Christi area, or who live in the area but are unable to come to the office for appointments.
Phone sessions must be scheduled like other counseling appointments. Sessions are 45-50 minutes long, just like office sessions. Appointments for phone counseling must be scheduled in advance and can be between the hours of 9am and 9pm. Sessions must be paid for in advance, either by giving your credit card information over the phone or by paying through our Christian Phone Counseling website. All telephone services are on a fee for service basis. Each session is $96. (People needing free suicide counseling should call the 24 hour Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK.)
I charge professional fees. Health insurance usually covers most costs. Discounts are available to families with financial hardship. Contact us for more information and to schedule your appointment. Scheduling and paying for a phone counseling session means that you have read the entire Counseling Office information page, understand what you have read and are willing to receive counseling from me.
Your privacy is important to me. I do not release your information unless you request it or it is required by law. I am required by law to report abuse of minors and the disabled according to State of Texas guidelines.
